Powell Peralta Vato Rat Band Tee Heather Grey

First introduced in 1983, the Rat Bones Band graphic marked a pivotal shift in Powell-Peralta’s visual language. Created by Craig Stecyk, the design broke away from the skulls and dragons that had defined the brand’s early era, bringing raw Dogtown energy to the lineup instead.

The “Vato Rat” character traces back to Stecyk’s early days tagging walls and surfboards around Dogtown. Stacy Peralta took notice of the imagery and pushed to resurrect it as an official Powell-Peralta graphic—cementing its place in skate history.

This tee was reissued in 2017 to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of The Search for Animal Chin, honoring one of skateboarding’s most influential films.
